IBM Quantum is an industry-first initiative from IBM that aims to develop universal quantum systems for business and science applications. “The IBM Quantum and NYU partnership will begin to bridge this gap to help train the future leaders and pioneers of quantum computing.” “To bring quantum computing from theory to reality, the community needs students trained in the unique and missing union of quantum theory, hardware, and software,” adds Zlatko Minev, an IBM research scientist. Partnerships, like the work we’re doing now with IBM Quantum, are a vital part of that mission, and our team looks forward to collaborating with such an important innovator and thought leader in the field of quantum information science.” “A big part of our mission is to provide the best possible learning opportunities to our students so they can become true leaders in the quantum workforce-to be a hub in New York City that connects academia with both industry and the broader scientific community. “The Center for Quantum Information Physics is more than just a research program,” says Javad Shabani, an associate professor of physics at NYU and director of the center, which launched on Sept. Work on these joint projects will also serve to strengthen research collaborations between IBM Quantum and the university’s physics faculty and students, they add. Mentors will oversee students’ work on joint IBM Quantum and NYU projects while also providing essential training on both the academic and professional skills they’ll need to build a successful career in quantum information science, the organizers say. In addition to gaining hands-on lab experience in areas of quantum information science, students who participate in the program will work closely with mentors from both IBM Quantum and NYU’s Center for Quantum Information Physics. The immersive summer program will provide students with hands-on lab experience that will encompass quantum information theory, quantum hardware, and quantum software. Now, following the launch of its Center for Quantum Information Physics, we’re thrilled to do our part to take their student researchers to the next level.” NYU has long been an enormous contributor to quantum information science. When you have a technology that’s maturing as quickly as quantum is, then you need these kinds of industry-academic partnerships to build a workforce that is capable of wielding that technology effectively. “And the field is much, much closer to realizing that potential than I think most people understand. “Quantum computing has the potential to solve valuable problems that are intractable to classical computation,” says IBM Quantum researcher and North America education lead Olivia Lanes. Students who participate in the program will spend the summer conducting joint research in quantum information physics at both IBM and NYU. IBM Quantum will hire undergraduate and graduate student researchers at the NYU Center for Quantum Information Physics as paid interns in the company’s summer internship program. The GRE, TOEFL, letters of recommendation, and résumé are optional (please leave items blank on the application if you do not provide).New York University’s Center for Quantum Information Physics and IBM Quantum, a research arm of the technology corporation, have established a partnership to train NYU undergraduates and graduates in quantum information physics. The statement of purpose should explain why you want to attend the program as a non-degree student and describe the courses that you plan to take, including directed reading and research courses. Refer to Application Policies for more information. As part of the application, all applicants must provide a final and official academic transcript showing proof that the bachelor’s degree or equivalent was conferred, including all courses with grades received. Other non-degree applicants must follow special instructions. citizens or permanent residents, or applicants who hold a current H1-B visa, must use the online application to apply. Non-degree applicants to Physics who are U.S. Applicants who are interested in opportunities at Abu Dhabi or Shanghai should indicate their interest in the campus section of the application. program in Physics offers the opportunity to conduct research in New York, or at NYU Abu Dhabi or NYU Shanghai.
